I've got a question and I didn't really want to start a new topic for it. I got folding going an here (using terminal) and it's been going for a few days. I downloaded the folding tracker widget and clicked the icon on the back and it still wont recognize by user name on the site (it doesn't find any users) and I looked in terminal and I found my ID number and put that into the widget and it doesn't get any info from it. How long does it take for the site to recognize new accounts? And why the heck after like three days can I not get any info on it? I'm getting annoyed I wanna see my stats.

I wonder if that might be "banker's hours"? Send a courier to the lab, lab tech does the test and goes home for the night, reading the results in the morning. Who knows what kind of advanced equipment and tech the military has access to. Fly right to the Kabul lab, start the test, fly to the carrier, proceed under the impression that this is him, with the hosing-down, funeral and dumping. A few hours later, confirmation.

Also it was stated that it is a key feature on the Pro and they need a reason for it to seem "Pro". Who would choose a thicker/heavier computer if you could get the thinner lighter computer with the same features? Minus the optical drive of course.
I'll repeat my analogy from another thread: If Ford all the sudden decided to remove air-conditioning on all but their high end cars, saying it is a 'luxary' feature that 'differentiates' the model line ... we'd ALL call BULL ...!!!
It is the same with the backlit keyboard on the MBA, which was for years a standard feature. To take it away now in order to 'differentiate' it from the pro models, is total bull....!!
If you want to differentiate the pro's you add even more features. You DON'T remove once-standard features on other models and all the sudden call it a 'luxary' item.

Just asking the experts ...
Is it possible Apple could release the final version with the option to initialize a drive with ZFS prior to install? Everything I have read about ZFS seems to point to it as a next logical step for Apple's OS.
I'd guess about 40% chance of that (which is actually pretty good; the odds that they'll release a final version with the option to initialize a drive with NTFS are around 0%). I'd like to see it - I have seen the future, and it's ZFS.

RISC originally meant that the processor had fixed width instructions (so it wouldn't have to waste time asking the software how big the next instruction will be). CISC mean that the processor had variable width instructions (meaning time would have to be taken to figure out how long the next instruction is before fetching it.) However, Intel has addressed this problem by making it possible for the processor to switch to a fixed-width mode for special processor intensive purposes. The PowerPC is stuck with fixed-width and has no ability to enjoy the flexibility of variable-width instructions for non-processor-intensive tasks. This means that CISC is now better than RISC. (Using the terms to loosely define Pentium as CISC and PowerPC as RISC.)
Apple will never switch to IA32 (Pentium) because 32 bit processors are a dead-end and maybe have a couple years left. This is what I've been saying: computer geeks design and market the stuff and it's like cutting themselves out of a potentially huge market. Jobs always understood the need to connect computers to people--non-computer-geek people... people that don't want to waste days of their lives just trying to figure out how to make their computer work so they can then do work.
Making it a limited or closed platform is part of the simplification needed for a successful device catering to almost everyone.

pentium pro thru pentium III is 6th generation
athlon from amd is 7th generation...the first 7th generation chip
and pentium 5 would be considered at least 7th generation and perhaps 8th generation pc processor
but no way can any G4 beat a pentium 5 at over 3 ghz...but then again, but 2nd quarter we may hve the G5 which can beat pentium 4 but maybe not pentium 5, but that is all speculation into the future
who really cares, after 3 ghz, if pc is faster or macs are faster...point is, both will be fast enough for vast majority of users

Im looking forward to the future of iOS.

It just happened that I can't open some pdf files anymore (preview, acrobat, whatever....)

"damaged and could not be repaired" (acrobat)
i guess that happens to files i want to "save to .pdf" after clicking "print"....
(the other way round, to save a file to safari, open that, print and save to pdf, works...)

The question should be whether the economy would have been even worse without the tax cuts. The article does not address this.
How would one find the answer to this?
Coincidentally, I've been toying with moving to either Washington or Texas and I've finally decided that it's time. For the cost of taxes in California, I could pay my rent in Washington or Texas for the entire year. And I can't think of one thing the California state government provides that the Washington state government doesn't that I would really miss.
The weather sucks big time in Washington state, Texas is much nicer (so I hear). A great many natives of the PNW can become real excretory orifices when they find out you are from California.

How can something like this be for "some phones?" Doesn't make much sense to me--seems more likely to be a problem with the carrier--mine did fine figuring out it was now daylight savings time. :confused:
